24- Hour Prayer Vigil

Written by on August 21, 2024

The Prayer Vigil has been a campus tradition for the past 6 years. Every year the Campus Ministry hosts it, this year it took place in the Student Activities Center from April 5 through 6. Scott Jagodzinske, the Campus Pastor, works tirelessly behind the scenes to make the Prayer Vigil run as smoothly as possible. Jagodzinske stated

“The Prayer Vigil is a yearly event that we do at Kansas Wesleyan during the holy week. It consists of a 24-hour time, where we have a dedicated space for students, faculty, or staff to spend time in prayer for their colleagues, fellow classmates, families, and community.”

The dedicated space consisted of devotionals, bible themed coloring books, art supplies, journals, bibles, and cross cloth (two pieces of fabric sewn together with a cross inside to remind you to put your worries in God’s hands). They had all sorts of mediums and ways to spend the time that each person dedicated. Each person ended

up in a 20-minute time slot to do what they deemed necessary. They sent a link to sign up for a time or times depending on what you need at that time. Anyone was welcome to sign up for a time whether it was online or as they walked by the booth.

Terry Baldwin sat in the area for a few hours talking to students faculty and staff about their prayer requests.

Baldwin, who is a part of the Campus Ministry and chaplain, took this time to help people organize their thoughts about what was going on at the time. This year has been full of ups and downs for a lot of people on campus. Having someone to talk to was helpful for those who needed it while he was there. Jagodzinske did the same talking to people as they entered and exited the prayer space as well as people who just passed by on their way to classes just to ask how they were doing in their everyday lives. The turnout of the day was better than it had been the few years prior.

Overall, this year’s Prayer Vigil went exceedingly well, and hope to see it grow over the next few years. This 24-hour period was a turning point for Campus Ministry and we cannot wait to see where we go from here.
