Event Overview
KWU students were invited to participate in a “Murder Mystery Night.” This event was put on by the student development program. 100 free tickets were available for the event with the first 20 players who arrived. These students received a player pack with themed items they were able to wear.
The event began at 6 pm Friday, October 25 at the Brown Mezzanine. A plethora of snacks and drinks were provided for those attending.
The theme for the night was “Murder at the Mafia Wedding.” The tagline was “Head back to the 1920s and solve a murder.
Interview with Event Coordinator
In an interview with Marvin Mitchell before the event, one of the student engagement coordinators talked about the event. He talked about the company “Power Performance,” which is where the actors used were from, and said, “We use them for a lot of different events.”
Mitchell also described the night “as sort of like Clue.” He also talked about how he was “excited to see what outfits the students are going to wear and can’t wait to see students get into character.”
He then talked about how he was expecting a high turnout of students to show up. Out of the 100 tickets they started with, over 80 were taken and he expected “70 to 75 students to show up”.
Growth in Student Engagement
This is a great improvement from the lack of participation there was at the beginning of the semester. That topic was talked about in this article.

The festivities began around 6 with students showing up and getting their snacks and drinks. And getting roles if they were one of the first 20 people.
About a dozen tables were spread out throughout Brown Mezzanine. All were filled with students dressed up, ready to get the night started. The students all sat down and started to mingle with each other. Those with roles read about themselves and became familiar with what they needed to know.
Next, after getting their share of the snacks and beverages and mingling amongst themselves, the night began. Two actors and one actress from Power Performance had microphones. They introduced themselves and welcomed everyone to the mafia wedding. They set the scene for what was going to happen throughout the night, and the madness began.
Finally, there was an introduction into the background to the players who arrived early and what their characters knew and saw.
Instead of spoiling what happened that fateful night, it will be left on a cliffhanger. This is in the hopes of encouraging more students to go out and participate in student engagement events.
