Time for Holiday Traditions
Written by Brandon Oaks on December 16, 2024
Christmas is almost upon us which means it’s time to celebrate the holiday appropriately. With Christmas comes an abundance of yearly traditions that always help boost the morale of that seasonal joy. Most of the fun traditions are rather silly but are always a handful of fun. With students from all different backgrounds come all different types of annual activities that they and their families share.
Decorating Baked Goods
One of the most popular traditions during the Christmas season is baking. The scent of fresh baked goods is such a nostalgic feeling for many. But eating the sweet treats is only half the fun because cookie decorating never fails to go unnoticed during this time of the year. Perfecting a masterpiece of a doodle on a sugar cookie or building gingerbread houses from scratch is a great activity to partake in with your loved ones.
Gift Exchange Frenzies
Of course gift giving is a major part of the holiday but if you’re looking for a way to make things more suspenseful then a white elephant gift exchange is the way to go. This activity allows you to get together with friends and family and take (usually low-cost) gifts from others, making for a thrilling night. Student Nik Highsmith says, “My family does a white elephant gift exchange every year. It’s great when I get to see my folks get riled up and laughing. I have a lot of good memories around Christmas because of it”.
Spectacular Sites
All around town during the holidays decorative Christma-themed lights are strung up across homes. A particular spot in town that has been quite popular for sightseeing for quite some time is Red Fox Lane. Without a doubt, they have the best collection of Christmas lights in their neighborhood and it is always spectacular to see. Another fun spot just a little over an hour south down in Wichita is their Botanica Gardens. Taking place in what is a beautiful flower garden in the spring and summer time turns into a flurry of decorative lights strung all across the facility. If interested, tickets are sold online on their website.
Take the time this year to fully enjoy the holiday spirit by partaking in the Christmas tradition. The holidays make for a great time to get out and about and reconnect with friends and family. It’s time to embrace Christmas! If interested in other holiday-related stories click here.
