What Can You View from The Notebook?

“The Notebook” is a cult classic romance released on June 25th, 2004. I have only watched the movie once, whereas my roommate has never seen it. We grabbed a bite to eat and were set for the next two hours. After watching the film I did a bit of research about behind-the-scenes. Looking at an E-News article spills all sorts of things that happened behind the scenes like about casting for “The Notebook” could have been completely different, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams not liking each other at first when shooting, and how “The Notebook” is based on a true story. This made the movie even more interesting when watching, it made us think of how the movie could’ve been different.

Imagine if Allie would have ended up with Lon. Living the life her mother wanted. A perfect life with a perfect husband. A husband with an education, accomplishments that stretched for miles, a good job, and came from a wealthy family just like her. Like a puzzle piece that fits perfectly too easily. In reality, Allie didn’t want easy or perfect and that’s what made Noah special. That’s what made Allie’s mother hate him more, she saw herself in Allie and the life she could have had with her “Noah”. Hiding away the letters that Noah had written for 365 days. A year! Because he was the black sheep next to her pristine pure family dressed in white. You can see the symbolism in the scene where Noah is eating with her family at Sunday brunch. But even with the choice that Allie had to make she had the love she wanted and made her perfect relationship… with Noah. Her missing puzzle piece.

Many people including myself look at Noah’s and Allie’s story as the top tier of all love stories. That if love was meant to be they would find each other again. Whether it was when they were young teenagers, adults, or in their old age, both of them tried to move along in life, without each other. They couldn’t, not after the first time they met that one summer. All the memories down the streets of Seabrook, the lake with friends, the beach, and even at Noah’s home with his dad singing and dancing. They had changed each other into their most free selves to find what they truly wanted. Each other. The Iconic words from Noah were “What do you want?”Allie responded that she wanted a white house with blue shutters a room to overlook the river so she could paint, and lastly added that she wanted a big old porch that wrapped around the entire house so they could drink tea and watch the sun go down. And that’s exactly what she got.
