Written by Angel Roman on January 23, 2025
With the first game of the 2025 season quickly approaching, the Coyotes reflect on some notable honors from the 2024 season along with a brief preview of this year’s season. Ending 19-3, the Coyotes had another successful winning season with 10 players and head coach, Melinda Nguyen earning All-KCAC honors.
Defensive standout, Alexa Mansur brought home KCAC Defensive Player of the Year and first-team defense as a linebacker. She collected 123 overall tackles, 97 solo tackles, and 5 interceptions during her junior season. When speaking with Mansur, she mentioned how winning DPOY felt like a huge accomplishment for her. Mansur then said, “I attribute it to my teammates because I wouldn’t have won it if they didn’t support me and put in the work as well.” With her senior season coming up she aspires to build off of this accomplishment.
Finishing up her second season as head coach, Coach Nguyen was presented with KCAC Coach of the Year. She has led the program to back-to-back winning seasons. The Coyotes placed second in the KCAC and made an appearance at the national tournament in Atlanta, Georgia. Coach Nguyen said, “the award is more of a reflection of the players and how they bought into the program.”
Looking forward to this season, the Coyotes come with plenty of experience returning all ten seniors from last season and some key transfers. The team also added several talented newcomers who look to make an impact this season as well. With a title and ring on their mind, the Coyotes have been working hard on and off the field as they prepare for their upcoming season.
The Coyotes open up their first game Sunday, February 16th at home versus Baker University.
