The Albert Nelson Student Success Center

At Kansas Wesleyan University, there are many academic support systems that are available for students to utilize. Whether that be for academic guidance, help with classes, or looking for a place to study, The Albert Nelson Student Success Center is the place to go. Located on the first floor of Memorial Library, the Student Success Center is available for all students who are seeking any sort of assistance with their academics. Students will see that the atmosphere of the Student Success Center is very calm as the staff members are all friendly and are looking forward to meeting new students. 

The Albert Nelson Student Success Center opened in the Memorial Library in 2011 with the goal of helping students succeed in the classroom. The mission of the Student Success Center is to “provide tutoring and other assistance to students to enable them to successfully complete their courses and improve their learning skills, particularly in English/writing skills and math. In addition, the center offers study skills, testing, handouts and Internet resources. The Success Center will benefit any student who wishes to improve their grades, needs clarification on information they may have missed in class, has trouble studying, or gets easily distracted from their academics.” In addition to these programs, the Student Success Center also plays a role in Freshman Advising. 

Tutoring Services are one of the key services that the Student Success Center provides. The tutors that are available to students range in all subjects so be sure to keep an eye out for the updated 2025 tutoring schedule that will be posted inside of the library as well as The Student Success Center page on the Kansas Wesleyan University website. The Student Success Center also provides services that can help students with time management, writing and study skills, stress management, and testing strategies. 

Aside from providing academic guidance and help with classes, the Student Success Center also does a variety of other activities that take place on campus. Some of these activities include hosting contests, parties, providing snacks for students and faculty, as well as hosting monthly themed art classes that take place in the library. Current students at Kansas Wesleyan University have said that having the Student Success Center available for whenever they need it has been a great accommodation. If students don’t utilize or need help from the Student Success Center some say that it is a relief to know that they can always go there and can seek help for any academic problem they have. When asked about the Student Success Center, one student said that “the Student Success Center is a great place to have on campus because of all of the services that they provide to students. All of the staff are very friendly and they truly care about your success not only in the classroom, but also in your sports or other activities that you do. Another aspect that I like that the Student Success Center offers are the free tutoring sessions and the tutors. Even if you don’t ever think that you’ll need the extra help from the services that they offer, the Student Success Center is always a great place to keep in mind.” When asked the same question, another student said that “I have personally never been to the Student Success Center or have used any of their services that they offer, but I know a few people that have gone there before and have always heard positive things about it. I think that the Student Success Center is a great resource for students to have on campus because I know that if I ever need help with my academics I know that I can go to the Student Success Center and ask for help.”
