Junk in the Trunk is an antique shop that sells a variety of different items and clothing. It originally started out in a smaller building located on Fourth Street, but the owner decided to move to a new location in hopes of bringing more people into the store. In 2021, Junk in the Trunk officially relocated to its new home which is in the Salina Central Mall at 2259 S 9th St. Junk in the Trunk is open everyday of the week but the hours vary. On Mondays-Saturdays they are open from 10 AM-5 PM, on Sundays they are open from 1 PM-5 PM.

In the Central Mall, Junk in the Trunk takes up many empty store spaces, allowing for new items to be brought in and sold. One of the more popular sections is the variety of old records that are up for sale. One member of the Salina community says “When Junk in the Trunk first opened, I really had no idea what it was about so I decided to check it out. When I saw how big the space was I was shocked. I remember walking around in awe of all of the unique items that were being sold. I would say that my favorite things currently being sold at Junk in the Trunk are all of the old records. There are so many records from a variety of popular artists.”

What’s unique about Junk in the Trunk is that all of their items and clothing that are up for sale are brought by vendors that come from all parts of Kansas. Every vendor has their own space where they can showcase their own unique collections. All of the vendors are very knowledgeable about their collections, especially in areas of furniture, antiques, and many other topics. Currently there are many unique collections at Junk in the Trunk that include paintings, records, furniture, and other items as well.

Members of the Salina Community also agree that Junk in the Trunk has brought people back into the Salina Central Mall. Junk in the Trunk offers shoppers a unique experience that they can’t get anywhere else in Salina. One person says “I was amazed at all of the antiques that Junk in the Trunk had. There were many items there that I remember having when I was a kid. It brought up some of my childhood memories and made me a little emotional.” When asked the same question, another person of the Salina Community said that “I can not tell you the last time I went to the Central Mall for anything. When I heard that a new place (Junk in the Trunk) had opened in the mall, I figured that I should go and see what it was all about. When I got to the store I was amazed at how many people were wandering throughout the store. I haven’t seen that many people at the mall in a long time, so it was great getting to see that this business gave people a reason to come back to the mall.”

There are also tons of other popular items that are sold at Junk in the Trunk. Currently they have a variety of old NFL/College football jerseys from a variety of teams, as well as basketball jerseys. Another popular item right now is all of the jewelry that they have, which include necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings. When you go into the store it’s important to know that all of the items that are currently being sold there have some meaning to someone and  used to belong to someone. The staff members will remind you when looking around to be careful and respectful of the items that are on display for sale.
