Local Salina Businesses: Dagney’s Ice Cream

Dagney’s Ice Cream is a locally owned ice-cream shop that features a variety of unique and classic ice cream flavors. Located in downtown Salina at 105 E Iron Ave, Dagney’s is a great place to stop if you are looking for a unique ice cream shop. 

The building was purchased way back in 2006 and originally opened as Dagney’s Chiropractic Office. Fast forward a few years later and downtown Salina is beginning to become more popular, with new restaurants and shops being added all throughout downtown. Staff members and Dagney came together to think of a way to make their extra space in their chiropractic office more productive. Dagney came up with an idea of opening up an ice cream shop. The staff began experimenting with all sorts of equipment to make ice cream, which led them to experimenting with liquid nitrogen. Although this experiment was short-lived after staff members realized that this idea wasn’t practical in their store. This setback did stop Dagney and her staff, as they began visiting ice cream shops all across the United States observing how they operate and make their ice cream product. They also found inspiration in the architect of that building as well, and used it as an outline for when they built their ice cream shop.

In 2016, Dagney and her staff had a final design of what they wanted their ice cream shop to look like, and construction began. Although it was a tough and lengthy process, Dangey’s officially had their temporary owner-permit and department of Agriculture permit and were able to open their doors to the public for the first time on May 27th, 2017. From that time on, Dagney’s Ice Cream has seen a huge success in their business because of all their unique flavors of ice cream. 

Daney’s mission statement is “to make and serve the “BEST” ice cream using the highest quality ingredients. We also focus on awesome customer service making Dagney’s Ice Cream a favorite destination for all ages.” Dagney’s vision statement also ties in with their mission statement which is “to become the premier ice cream destination in North Central Kansas, then in Kansas, then in the US, then in the World!”

Dagney’s Ice Cream offers a variety of common and unique ice cream flavors on their menu. Some of their most common flavors include: Strawberry, Vanilla, Cookie Dough, and Chocolate. Some of their unique flavors include: Lavender Honey, Maple Bacon, Cherries Love Chocolate, and S’mores. Dagney’s also has a Non-Dairy Menu as well, and has many flavors on it. One student at Kansas Wesleyan University says that “I really like Dagney’s Ice Cream because of all the unique flavors they offer. It’s unique that Salina has an ice cream shop like this because there’s no other place where you can find some of these ice cream flavors. I like trying out the different flavors they sell, because they are so unique. Currently I would say that a few of my favorites are Fruity Pebbles, Cookie Dough, or Snickers.”

Not only does Dagney’s sell ice cream, but also a variety of floats and soda drinks. Ice cream floats are one of their most popular sellers because they can be made with any ice cream and soda flavors of your one’s choice which makes them unique. Some of their most common floats that they make are: Root beer floats, Orange crush floats, and Grape floats. Dagney’s Ice Cream sells a unique collection of soda drinks, as well as common soda flavors. Another Kansas Wesleyan student says “I really like going to Dagney’s for their ice cream, but what I really like buying is the unique soda pop that they sell. They sell so many flavors, so there’s always something new for me to try. I would say that my favorite flavors that I have tried are probably: Caramel apple soda, peaches and cream, or cookie dough.”
