Jim’s Country Style Chicken: A Salina Staple That Missed the Mark

Welcome back! I’m Jacob Fallon, and today we’re diving into the world of chicken, specifically at Jim’s Country Style Chicken. Jim’s has a lackluster 3.5 stars on Yelp, but let’s try Jim’s with an open mind! As always, you can catch my video reviews before these blog posts come out on Instagram and TikTok..

The chef really winged it… and not in a good way.

Located at 649 S Broadway Blvd., Jim’s has a pretty standard menu for the most part. Today, I got a simple two-piece regular fried chicken dinner, consisting of a thigh and a leg, which cost around $9.98 (before tax). Alongside my chicken, I got fries, green beans, and a roll. My first impression was underwhelming. The green beans looked like they came straight out of a can, and the under-seasoned fries didn’t look appetizing.

So, let’s dive into the food. First up is the chicken. It didn’t look bad, but after my first bite, it was dry and not seasoned at all. Looking back, I think I rated it higher than I should have at a 6.5/10. On to the sides. The fries weren’t good; they weren’t seasoned well and were kind of soggy, landing them at a very mid 5/10. The green beans tasted like they had just been opened and poured into a bowl, earning them a 3/10. Finally, the roll was just like any normal Hawaiian roll I’ve had, a 4.5/10. Overall, the food was lackluster and very disappointing. The service, however, was good. The people were very nice and hospitable, so they get a 9/10. The price was $9.98, and for the quality of the food, it isn’t worth it, even though the quantity was decent. Too bad we care more about quality than quantity here, so the price gets a 5/10.

Summary:

  • Service: 9/10: Staff was overall good, but nothing out of the ordinary.
  • Price: 5/10: The price was good for the quantity, but not worth it for the quality.
  • Food: 4.75/10: The food was lackluster and very mid.

We are still on the hunt to find the best chicken in Salina, and Jim’s hasn’t set the bar very high. Thank you for reading this week’s food review! Stay tuned for next week’s review. Just a reminder If you want to see these reviews earlier make sure you follow my Instagram and TikTok
