KWU Flag Football | First Conference Matchup

For the second consecutive week, the Coyotes faced off against the Ottawa University Braves in their first conference matchup of the season. After a strong second half effort, the Coyotes came up just short, falling to the Braves with a final score of 26-18.

The game began with KWU receiving the opening kickoff, and the Coyotes came out strong moving down the field, quickly positioning themselves near the goal line. However, after a few missed opportunities, they were unable to convert on a critical fourth-down play. Taking full advantage of the momentum, the Braves scored on their opening drive leading 6-0 early. On their next possession, KWU struggled to score, and Ottawa capitalized with another score extending their lead to 12-0.

Despite the early deficit, KWU got on the board with 1:21 left in the second quarter. Quarterback Chihiro Iwata connected with Alexis Jimenez in the end zone for a much-needed touchdown making the score 12-6. The Braves then answered back in the final 31 seconds of the half to up them up 19-6 going into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Braves were the first to strike in the third quarter, converting on their opening drive and extending their lead to 26-6. With a few adjustments at half, the Coyotes showed new life as Iwata connected with Angel Roman for a touchdown, narrowing the deficit to 26-12. The momentum seemed to shift to the Coyotes as they made a crucial stop on the Braves. With possession, Iwata was able to find Aliyah Wood in the end zone for another touchdown, bringing the Coyotes to within 8 points at 26-18. With time winding down, the Braves ran out the clock preventing a potential comeback by KWU.
With the defeat, KWU moves to a 2-2 overall record and stands at 0-1 in conference play. Looking ahead, KWU will host Southwestern College at 6 pm on Wednesday at JRI Hospitality Stadium.
