Outlaw Conference Champions
KWU women’s basketball finished the regular season 22-6 and 18-4 in the KCAC. After securing a win against Southwestern College on February 15th, with a massive blowout score of 106-54. The Coyotes were able to secure outright conference champions. This is the second time in recent history this has happened, previously was 2019-2020 that went 21-3 in conference. This was major for the Coyotes knowing that win or lose the conference tournament they have a secured spot in the NAIA National Tournament this year. Which they have not been to since 2019-2020 when it got cancelled due to the Corona Virus outbreak.
When asked how the team felt winning the conference outlaw and knowing you have a spot in the national tournament? Paige Chauncey responded with, “Winning the conference championship was a huge monumental moment… Were super excited to go to the national tournament… And we’re just really excited to prove ourselves and that Kansas Wesleyan can compete with these big teams”.

The first game of the KCAC Tournament was February 27th, against 8th seeded University of Saint Mary. The Coyotes played a great game offensively, but went back and forth the entire game as Saint Mary did as well. Due to Alanis Delago impressive 33 points for the Spires. The Coyotes however was able to pull out a 3 point win with the ending score being 80-77. Having 5, but nearly 7 players in double digits. Lamyah Ricks (16), Hampton Williams (12), Catherine Bowman (11), Angel Lee (10), and a huge contribution off the bench from sophomore Odessa Ozuna (13) led the way for the Coyotes.
Unfortunately the Coyotes did lose the second round conference tournament game to 5th seeded Friends University. Due to a buzzer beater layup ending the game with a 64-62 score. Williams (13), Lee (12), and Jill Stephens (13) were leading scores that game. The Coyotes now begin preparing for the first round NAIA Tournament game Friday, March 14th, against MidAmerica Nazarene in Olathe, KS.
