YMCA & KWU Partnership Spotlight

Written by on March 19, 2025

The Background…

YMCA (Young Mens Christian Association) has been serving the Salina community since 1886. It was originally located in downtown Salina, but services grew too large for the original building to keep up so they moved it to 570 YMCA Drive where it currently resides. They also are a Christian-based organization that works to support the community in any way they can.

The Y’s Purpose

The Y is a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening communities by connecting people. They support youth, and well-being, and inspire action. YMCA ensures everyone has access to the resources and relationships needed to thrive.

The Partnership…

Kansas Wesleyan University has been partnered with the YMCA since April 2021. They started an agreement that would benefit both organizations. All of the full-time KWU faculty, staff, and students receive a free membership to the YMCA. KWU provides graduate assistants and interns in return. All students and faculty have to do to activate the membership, is bring in a valid license and give their name to be able to prove that they qualify.

What Does The Membership Include…

  • State-of-the-art Wellness Center
  • Free group Exercise Classes
  • Y Rewards Savings
  • YMCA 360
  • Nationwide Access

Why is this relevant…

The YMCA offers classes and tools that can be used by anyone at any age. There are classes for yoga, Zumba, line dancing, spin classes, and more. Participating in these classes increases not only your physical activity but could boost your mood and connect you with people in the Salina community. It also helps teams become closer by having a safe and welcoming place to work out together and build each other up that way.
