Written by on October 17, 2024

Halloween is just around the corner and with it comes spooky vibes and looming scares.  Throughout October there are countless frightening events located within Kansas.  Events such as haunted houses, trails, and escape games that could get the adrenaline pumping to make for a good time with friends.  Fortunately, some of the higher rated frightening activities aren’t too far from Salina for students or staff looking to have some fun.

Field of Screams

Field of Screams is a haunted house located in Maize and was voted the #1 haunted attraction in the state just last year.  At the event attendees will travel through the haunted grounds of the Spurlock family where they’ll witness gruesome sights of historically accurate murders.  Navigating through fields and forests, you’ll eventually find yourself in Clown Town.  Here you’ll be surrounded by nightmarish clowns and mazes while taking in dizzy 3D effects.  And if you haven’t had enough, they have two escape rooms available as well.  Field of Screams tickets are sold online and are open almost every Thursday-Sunday in October.

Zombie Toxin

Zombie Toxin Haunted House takes place in Junction City and is known for their attention to detail and extremely talented actors.  The setting is The Doctor’s mansion where guests will maneuver through over 9,000 square feet of grotesque scenery while zombie-like creatures chase you throughout the journey.  Four unique mini escape rooms also take place outside of the mansion.  Previous attendee, Trenton Davis, highly recommends the event for anyone who is a fan of horror and loves to be frightened.  “My friends had a great time.  The event had me on my toes the entire time and we have some funny memories in the escape rooms”.  Tickets are sold online and is open every Friday and Saturday during October including Halloween night and November 1st.

Haunted Asylum

Haunted Cannery Spook House and Lunatic Asylum is just north of El Dorado at Walters Farm and Pumpkin Patch.  The adventure starts with a covered hay wagon ride to the “Haunted Cannery” and “Lunatic Asylum” where travelers can choose between the hayride tractor or the “Hell Bound” Ambulance.  After another journey through the haunted outdoors you’ll reach the Spook House.  Here you and a partner can ride in a rolling closed lid casket on rails while terrifying monsters and patients try to break in.  Tickets for the Haunted Cannery are sold online and are open every Friday and Saturday in October.
