KWU Women’s Volleyball Defeats #6 OWU

Written by on December 16, 2024

KWU women’s volleyball took down 6th ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan 3-1 last Friday, October 18th during homecoming week. Set totals were (25-21, 20-25, 28-26, 25-21). The energy in Mabee arena was strong as there were multiple students, family members, and a lot of energy from the basketball and baseball teams  in attendance. This energy seemed to shift to the Coyotes as they came out strong winning the first set. And even though they lost the second set they were able to regroup and respond with a must have third set that led to finishing it out in the fourth set. The Coyotes played great as a whole putting up 71 kills as a team, but some tenable players were sophomore Gianna Adriaanse and Junior Rylee Serpan. Both players combined for an amazing 32 kills splitting 16 each, which was very impressive against Oklahoma Wesleyan who has multiple very tall attackers and known for blocking.

Gianna Adriaanse has been very impactful all season as her name has been mentioned a lot she has been recently awarded with KCAC Women’s volleyball Player of the Week award. When asked how she felt after the game Adriaanse responded with saying how “this feels like our best win yet, it was so much fun with the crowd and we played so well as a team”. After the game the students stormed the court to celebrate with the women after the upset. Senior Jaylin Peterson who has been to a lot of the Coyotes volleyball game mentioned that “This was one of their best wins and one of the most fun environments”. The Coyotes are now 13-9 (4-3 conference) as they look finish the last run of the season strong with seven games left before playoffs. Next game is Wednesday. October 23rd, at 7:00 PM against Bethel College.
