Wind Ensemble
Benjamin Rohrer, the adjunct wind ensemble director, is in his first year directing at Kansas Wesleyan University. Rohrer has expressed enthusiasm for working with the students. With him stating, “It has been a great experience directing these students.” To supplement the ensemble’s roster this semester, several guest artists were invited to fill specific roles.
The wind ensemble has experienced significant growth over the years, with several students witnessing firsthand the program’s development.
More specifically, senior Rachael Everitt has been known for her role in the wind ensemble over the last four years. She has been a valuable member of both the wind ensemble and the KWU Choir. Graduating this year with a Music Education degree she plays the flute and is a featured Soprano singer.
The growth of the music department has been wonderful to see. With staff that supports the students being huge factor. Giving stability to allow its students to grow! ~ Rachael Everitt
String Orchestra
The string orchestra was directed by Dr. Leonardo Rosario. He has led the orchestra in many successful concerts over the last few years, this was no exception. The Kansas Wesleyan string orchestra’s opening piece featured a talented quartet of violin soloists: Abigail Ramos, Maria Stanislow, Vy Lee, and Akari Ishide. As well as Adrian Aranda with a cello solo. Three of violin soloists were current KWU students, showcasing the university’s exceptional musical talent.
Abigail Ramos is a junior majoring in Biochemistry and was a soloist at the concert. In addition, Ramos has seen the KWU music department grow before and now after the construction.
“It is a pleasure playing with the orchestra…To play pieces to the fullest extent you must put in the work.” Ramos stated.
Maria Stanislow, a junior majoring in Music Education: Strings, is the concertmaster of the orchestra. Her leadership and skill have been instrumental in the ensemble’s success.
Stainislow spoke on the changes in the music department,
I am beyond grateful for the growth of the music department. It shows that people still care and will support music and the arts.
The new and improved Music Department
The Kansas Wesleyan music department has experienced remarkable growth over the past year. The opening of Sams Chapel/Bieber Music Hall and the Applequist Family Music Center has provided the department with expanded facilities, creating new opportunities for growth and development.
The recent Coming Home concert, held in Sams Chapel, offered a glimpse into the exciting year ahead for the music department. The choir, The Howl, the wind ensemble, and the string orchestra showcased their talents, providing a taste of the exceptional music that will be featured in this year’s concert series.
Keep up with upcoming music events and concerts on the Music Department’s social media and look out for emails from Chrissy Swagerty the week of any event.
