You Must Watch Ella Enchanted!

Written by on November 14, 2024

Ella Enchanted came out on April 9th, 2004. It starred Anne Hathaway as Ella of Frell and Hugh Dancy as Prince Charmont. Described as a modern-day Cinderella and Prince Charming story, it follows Ella’s troubling life with being given the gift of obedience. The fantasy world is full of fairies, ogres, elves, giants, and magic! Hiding her “gift’ is quite difficult when people like her new step-sisters take advantage of her.

It truly is one of my favorites because Ella wants to be like everyone else but is cursed and trapped by her so-called “gift.” After being forced to drive away her best friend Rita, she finally gains the courage to get rid of her “gift” for good. Along the way, she finds a new friend to help her reach her destination, an elf named Slannen. Prince Charmont as well, comes to save her when they encounter ogres. The man she “dislikes” comes to her rescue again.

“the way people write movies has changed”

The one thing that annoys me is how cringey or cheesy it can be. My roommate agreed stating, “Yeah, and it is an old movie too.” What she means is the way people write movies has changed and the story is supposed to be like a fairy tale. But what makes up for it is the chemistry that the main characters have with each other. Their banter is exceptional and they complement one another well with their personalities.

“a movie that many look back on with nostalgia”

Spending the evening relaxing, finishing up some homework, and struggling with the remote to get it to cooperate. Ella Enchanted is a cult classic and a movie that many look back on with nostalgia. Even if it is a bit corny overall it is an amazing film. Even when being obedient, we must learn to say no. I think that this is the secret message behind the film.
