Prairieland Market is a specialty organic grocery store that recently opened on October 23rd. The Market was originally founded in 1978 as a buyers’ club on Walnut St, and has progressively changed over the years into its current shape today. Now located on 118 S Santa Fe, Prairieland Market has moved to a bigger store, and is one of the newest additions to Downtown Salina. On their website, Prairieland Market says that their mission and vision is to “encourage healthy food choices, provide nutritional food education, and access to local, organic, and craft foods, in order to promote enhanced well-being for the community.” As well as to Create a food market that promotes personal, community, and environmental nourishment by supporting local/regional and organic food production, as well as consumer education, with access for all.” Volunteer cook Tara Herrenbruck, says that one of the main goals of the Market is to “try and incorporate healthy foods more into the Salina community, as well as get more people to visit the market.”

In the store, Prairieland Market sells a variety of Kansas-made and farm-fresh foods that include fruits and vegetables, meats, cheeses, grains and baked goods. There is also a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program that Prairieland Market runs where they put together weekly boxes of local-produced and homemade goods as well that can be bought in store. Prairieland Market also allows local farmers and ranchers to bring in their own crops and produce into the market and sell it.
