Going Back Home: Wichita, KS

This is Londyn Ysidro. She is from Wichita, Kansas, near the Haysville Derby area, which is one hour and twenty minutes drive from campus. She is only a freshman here at Kansas Wesleyan University but is a part of the softball team and is majoring in sports marketing. Ysidro doesn’t live far away from home she mentioned that adjusting to college was still difficult though. Feeling homesick Ysidro stated, “I wanted to go home every day especially when starting classes.” It’s understandable as so far in life usually have our parents at our side at all times.

After getting settled into Kansas Wesleyan University she is now thriving! Independence is all we want until it is finally time to be on our own. Having the advantage of living in the state and not living so far away means she can go home almost every weekend. In a way helped calm her nerves about being away from home. Spending the weekends with her family made her realize that they were too far away. Ysidro’s favorite activity to do with her family is to go to sporting events. Mainly the ones that involved either her brother’s or little cousin’s football or baseball games. 

Having the upcoming holiday of Thanksgiving the anticipation of seeing all her family fills her with joy. Though she might not be seeing her brother or cousin play, Ysidro is just happy to have more time with family. As Ysidro states, “I am very excited because I get to see more of my family and I have much more time than just a weekend.” Imagining that everyone is as ecstatic as Ysidro about this much-needed break to spend time with family before finals. Have some peace before a bit of chaos.
