Odessa Ozuna Steps Up for Kansas Wesleyan Women’s Basketball Team
Salina, KS – With starting point guard LaMyah Ricks sidelined due to injury in the recent game against Bethel, Odessa Ozuna has stepped up to fill the crucial role for the Kansas Wesleyan women’s basketball team. Hailing from Arlington, TX, and a sophomore nursing major, Odessa is ready to take on this challenge and make her mark on the court.
When asked about the adversity of stepping into the starting position, Odessa shared, “Having the confidence in myself and my teammates being really good at reassuring me has helped a lot. My coaches also pull me aside and tell me they’re comfortable with me taking that spot. Their positivity and belief in me help me believe in myself.”
As the second-string point guard, Odessa’s role on the team is clear: “I’m here to take care of the ball, distribute plays, play defense, score when needed, and be solid for the team throughout the season.” She emphasizes her commitment to both leadership and performance, making sure to contribute in every way possible.
Odessa also draws inspiration from within her team, saying, “My role models are my teammates. I look up to them, and they motivate me every day.” Her strong bond with the team fuels her determination to succeed in the starting role, bringing both skill and confidence to the court in LaMyah’s absence.
As Odessa embraces this opportunity to shine, she’s not just filling in for a missing player—she’s proving herself as a valuable and reliable asset to the Kansas Wesleyan women’s basketball team.
