Women’s Flag Football in a Frosty Fluster

Wild Wild Winter
Salina, Ks. — The women’s flag football team at Kansas Wesleyan University is getting ready for the first game of the season, but getting ready has not been easy. The team hasn’t had much time to train on the field lately because of the snow, so players have had to adapt as they get ready for their first game. The team hasn’t been able to do drills and games outside as much because of the heavy snow on the main practice and game field. Because of this, players have had to do workouts and training sessions inside, which aren’t quite the same as a real game because of the speed and room.
Dealing with Adversity
Getting used to practicing indoors Since the field isn’t usable, the team has had to change its training schedule and use gyms and other workout facilities to stay in shape. Even though indoor routines are good for improving skills, not having a full field makes it hard to run plays, work on defensive strategies, and get to know each other in a game-like setting. “We’re doing the best we can with what we have,” said Alexis Jiminez, a returning senior. “The team has stayed focused and determined despite the problems.” To make sure they are as ready as possible when they finally step onto the field, players have been working on agility tasks, passing accuracy, and talking to each other. Some, though, agree that it’s hard to change the game speed without having a good outdoor practice.
A Look Ahead
The team has finally able to train on the field being that most of the snow melted. Even though the situation wasn’t ideal, the team has been able to deal with adversity. The Coyotes feel focused and ready to play, as the start of their season is quickly approaching.
