St. Ambrose Rallies Past Kansas Wesleyan 8-5.
A mid-game surge propelled St. Ambrose (IA) to an 8-5 victory over Kansas Wesleyan.
Kansas Wesleyan struck first in the fourth inning when Garrett Garfield hit a solo home run to left center. However, St. Ambrose quickly responded in the fifth, capitalizing on back-to-back wild pitches to take a 2-1 lead. Then, an infield single from St. Ambrose further extended the lead to 3-1.
Kansas Wesleyan fought back, tying the game 3-3 in the bottom half. St Ambrose broke it open in the 6th, an error by the coyotes allowed the go-ahead run to score. St. Ambrose then tacked on a double and single to extend the lead 7-3.
KWU trimmed the deficit to 7-5, St. Ambrose tacked on an insurance run in the ninth with an RBI double. St. Ambrose starter went five innings.
St. Ambrose racked up 12 hits, whereas the Coyotes managed just six hits in the disappointing loss.
KWU outlasts St. Ambrose in 8-4 victory.
Kansas Wesleyan jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, securing an 8-4 win over St. Ambrose on Friday afternoon at Dean Evans Stadium.
The coyotes plated three runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Garrett Garfield and an RBI single from Fernando Ruvalcaba.
St. Ambrose found themselves in a hole early is KWU tacked on runs in the second, third, and fourth innings, extending their lead to 6-0.
The Bees responded in the fifth when Quinn Flanagan drove in a run with a single, followed by a sacrifice fly and an RBI single, thereby cutting their deficit to 6-3.
A wild pitch in the sixth brough another St. Ambrose run across, but Kansas Wesleyan capitalized on a pair of balks in the eighth to add two insurance runs, sealing the win. 
Nathan Righi (2-0) earned the victory on the mound. He allowed three runs over five innings with seven strikeouts. Ritter Steinmann collected his third save with a scoreless ninth. St. Ambrose starter Marchizza took the loss. He surrendered five runs over three innings.
KWU centerfielder Jacob Williamson led the yotes with a 4-5 performance, scoring three runs.
KWU secures win over Hastings 6-3.
Kansas Wesleyan used a four-run sixth inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from catcher Tyler Favretto, to defeat Hastings 6-3 on Friday evening at Dean Evans Stadium.
The Coyotes struck first in the opening inning as Jacob Williamson scored on a fielder’s choice by Favretto. Hastings answered in the fourth on an error, tying the game at 1-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, KWU reclaimed the lead when Jackson Harriger’s infield single brought home Coulson Riggs.
The decisive moment came in the sixth when Drew Wardell doubled home Blake Dale, and Favretto followed with a three-run blast to left-center, pushing the lead to 6-1.
Hastings fought back in the seventh, cutting the deficit to 6-3 on a two-run double, but Brett Maddock (1-1) shut the door with a complete-game performance. The right-hander struck out nine over seven innings, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits.
Velasquez took the loss for Hastings, surrendering two runs over four innings. Williamson, Wardell, and Favretto led KWU offensively, combining for four of the team’s five hits.
Hastings’ Stone was a bright spot, going 3-for-3 with a stolen base.
Look forward
The coyotes were scheduled to play a fourth game on Saturday but got canceled due to cold temperatures.
The coyotes are scheduled to open up conference play on the road against Evangel. However, that series is in jeopardy with inclement weather coming to Salina.
As it stands, the Coyotes are 5-6 heading into conference play.
